Southwest Region 2010 Spring Rally
Mary & Doug hosted the Southwest Regional 2010 Spring Rally!
Mary Curran-Perkins and Doug Perkins opened their city, their home and their hearts to the attendees of the Southwest Spring Rally held in Prescott, Arizona May 14 - 16th.
They selected the awesome Point of Rocks campground in Prescott as the gathering place for the rally where the traditional Friday night "Brats & Beans" dinner was served. Flowers were presented to Suzanne Thompson-Hoffman with gratitude for all her efforts on the clubs behalf. After dinner, Mary surprised us with an awesome "fireless" campfire and we enjoyed the ambience of a perfect Prescott evening.
Mary and Doug welcomed all the rally attendees into their beautiful home for the Saturday night Pot Luck Dinner! There were 25 of us in all, representing 7 states.
Dinner was followed by a group event, "bubbles from the balcony", and Mary’s award ceremony for the winners of the bubble contest. Then came the "White Elephant" door prize game and to top off the evening, we all helped Dick Luczywek celebrate his birthday with song and a birthday cake.
The rally rolled over into Sunday for a few of us who stayed another day to visit and savor the pot luck leftovers.
Thank you Mary and Doug for all you did to make this rally a very enjoyable and memorable one for all of us. We appreciate you two so much.

Stupendous Santa Fe Rally by Bonnie Penrose
What’s better than spending a long weekend laughing with old friends, making new friends, enjoying grilled brats (bratwurst…not rude children), winning door prizes, showing off your Aliner, gathering new ideas, eating incredible potluck food, embarrassing our new club president, and sitting around a campfire solving the problems of the world? The only thing better is if you were able to do so under the backdrop of the beautiful city of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The Southwest Region’s 2009 fall rally was held October 23-25 at the friendly, and very accommodating, Santa Fe KOA. Thirty-one people attended. Participants came from AZ, CA, CO, NV, NM, OR, and TX.
Regional directors Jim Eaton and Linda Will-Eaton know how to throw a great rally. Jim and Linda were the consummate hosts, warmly greeting everyone, making coffee at all hours of the day and night, offering snacks, planning group dinners, and making sure that everyone was having fun. They did everything short of backing our Aliners into our campsites, and may have done that if only they had thought of it!
Memorable moments: though their Aliner was in the shop (shocking!), first timers Steve & Nikki Garcia of Amarillo, TX, stopped by to say hi and tour the Aliners. Craig and Evelyn Kelly of Albuquerque attended the rally and then left on a two-month road trip. Mary Curran-Perkins of Prescott, AZ, was somehow talked into hosting the next rally.
New club president Virgil Anderson and wife, Jenny, came all the way from Salem, OR. Virgil was presented with a fabulous handmade scepter in keeping with his status as the new “king” of the Aliner Owners Club. The jewel-encrusted scepter, respectfully (?) crafted by Butch Penrose, is a regal multi-tool complete with a marshmallow-roasting fork, Fantastic Fan opener, and cup and ball game for Virgil to play when he gets bored at club meetings. We think Virgil felt appropriately honored.
The Southwest Region will gather for another fun-filled adventure in May, when Mary and husband, Doug Perkins, host the next rally in Prescott, AZ. I predict a good time to be had by all.

Region Rally held May 23-25, 2009 in Williams Arizona
Memorial weekend found 28 campers in 18 units gathering at the Circle Pines, KOA in Williams, AZ. This historic area has long been a gathering point for mountain men, classic car rallies, and now Aliners! We were the talk of the campground as many fellow campers had never seen such a unique collection of rigs.
Our rally was open to all those making the trek to the national rally in Bakersfield, CA. Our ranks grew to include members from California, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Canada, and Connecticut – does anyone know if Pierre is even home yet? Sitting around the campfire at night was interesting to hear all the different accents telling stories about past Aliner adventures!
Although we had gray skies, intermittent showers, and cool temperatures we made the best of it and still had a great time. From my perspective of living in Arizona for almost 30 years, a rainy day is a joyous thing to behold!
Our regional directors, Linda and Jim, had morning coffee ready to greet us every morning. Some new camp cook ware was tried out which yielded some very tasty, yet tiny, cinnamon rolls – actually more like a cinnamon bite. Our group pot luck dinner was a spread for royalty consisting of crock pot scalloped potatoes, grilled brats, brownies, baked beans, carrot salad, and all kinds of yummy goodies assuring no one went hungry.
Activities included a fun session of making colorful glittery visors, day trip to the Grand Canyon or Sedona, thrift shopping in Williams, and Aliner open house. It is amazing what some folks have done to make life easier in such a small space. Jim and Ruth White’s rig is a lesson in comfort- WOW!
We closed our rally with a special first year anniversary gathering for our wonderful directors Jim and Linda – first year wedding and serving as regional directors. Always enthusiastic, welcoming, and caring we thank them for their efforts and wish them happy lives together! See you on the road again fellow Aliners – it was a blast!
Sincerely,
Julie Moss

The SW Regional Rally at the
Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon
Fiesta was an incredible experience!! We are considering
a rerun of the event extended to others in the Aliner Owners Club for next
year. |
| 23 Southwest Regional club members attended the first
"documented" regional rally at the Voyager RV Resort in Tucson on Oct. 25-27,
2002. SW
Regional Director Tom Merewether, Albuquerque Aliner dealer Tony Mayne, and Western Region
Distributor Bob Groves teamed up to produce a good time for all. Everyone enjoyed the
opportunity to get acquainted in a small group setting. Even with great weather, an
upscale resort with all the amenities, tours of Old Town and lunch at one of the best
Mexican restaurants in the Southwest, the highlight of the weekend was a showing of the
1950s Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez film, The Long, Long Trailer. There
were lots of laughs as attendees related to many of the experiences in the picture.
Following are some photos from the rally. Just click on a photo to see the enlargement. |
