| Chris and Kathy are the co-owners of the KOA and have agreed to a 10% reduction off their normal rate of $31.50 per night (so, $28.35/night) for two people. This same rate will apply for coming early/staying late. There is a $3/night charge for extra adults (over 2), and a $1/night charge for kids 4-17. If for some reason, you can't make it with your Aliner, you can stay at their Kamping Kabins at a 10% reduction on the Kabin rate.
To sign up for the rally do two things:
1. Call the KOA (1-800-562-5804) and make your reservation directly with them. Tell them you are with the "Aliner Group" to get the "Rally Rate". If you want to come early, and many of us will be there Thursday, you will get the same rate. For those with a KOA Value Kard, you can use that to get your 10% reduction and add some KOA Reward Points to your account. Please don't wait to the last minute to call the KOA. This is a smaller KOA, and I don't want you left out if they fill up. So, make your plans, and reserve early--you can always cancel if something comes up.
2. Please email me and let me know that you plan to attend. I need to know your name (how you want to be called) for name tags, and what city, state you're from.
The schedule for the weekend will be the "South East Coastal Standard", which is:
Friday
Happy hour/mixer at the KOA's Pavilion at about 4:30-5PM. We will supply Brats and hot dogs and all the fixins'. You bring an appetizer/hors d'oeuvre/munchie to share. BYOB. I know most of you know this, but my idea here is a stand around, graze on all the good food you shouldn't eat, and meet old and make new friends. As opposed to a food line that you go through and sit down by yourself and eat. And if you want to flip dogs for awhile, help yourself! Afterwards we can play bocci ball, card games or domino games--just bring along your own stuff. Just remember, we only have a couple nights together, so let's make the most of our short time together! To me, it's less about the camping and more about the people!
Saturday
At about 9:30-10AM we'll have an Open House, so you can check out what's been done to some of the Aliners. I'm horrible doing this, so I'll need a volunteer to organize the Open House, please.
The rest of the day is on your own.
At 6PM we'll have a catered BBQ meal at the Pavilion. We will have pulled BBQ pork, BBQ chicken and BBQ spare ribs as well as cole slaw, baked beans, iced tea, lemonade. and for desert, cream cake. They will provide all the paper products and utensils, so all you have to do is show up--of course you're welcome to bring along an adult beverage, if you'd like. While we have everyone together, we'll get a group photo after dinner. Again, afterwards we can do some more of the same games as Friday night.
Sunday
At 8AM we'll have coffee, hot water for tea, donuts, or some kind of sweet cake, and say good bye to everybody. Bring your own cup, please.
I'd like a little help with the proportions for Saturday night's meal. Right now we've ordered half and half pulled pork and chicken with enough for about everyone, and one spare rib per person. What I want to know is, what do you, personally want? Like, for instance: I hate BBQ pork, I'll only eat chicken, or I only eat spare ribs. So when you email me that you're coming, let me know if the proportions are about right, or if you would rather have one over the other. I just want to refine the proportions a little bit, so everyone has plenty of what they like. And do you prefer lemonade or iced tea? Tiki and I had lunch at the caterers, thought it was pretty good, and also liked their lemonade.
There will be a rally fee that I'll figure out at the rally and collect then (probably in the $15/person range). The rally fee will cover the cost of the brats and dogs, the Saturday dinner, Sunday's coffee etc., and permanent nametag holders.
Yes, we're ordering permanent nametag holders. Tentatively they will be blue with a white "Aliner Owners Club" imprinted on them. They are about 4" X 5 1/2" in size and have a full length pocket with a zipper at the top, and a loop to hold a pen. After you receive your nametag holder, please hang on to it, or just keep it in your Aliner, so you don't lose it, and bring it to further rallies. We'll just provide the paper nametag from now on. We'll have extra nametag holders to buy if you need an extra one or lose one. This is just a sample--don't hold me to the exact font etc.
In my last letter I talked about buying more South East Coastal T-shirts. The response was pretty low. To make the cost of the T-shirts fairly reasonable we need to order about 4 dozen shirts. So, once again, I ask if you're interested in a T-shirt (which we will have at the Fall Rally), please let me know. Please include size and whether white or gray. I'd like to make another order, but if there isn't enough interest we won't do it. Toni Conger has volunteered to help out on this project, and she will need to know a number soon, if we're going to have these ready for the Fall Rally
Our own AnnaMay Douthitt and Judy Hardesty have volunteered to be Wagon Masters for next spring's "Beach Rally" in Myrtle Beach. This rally which is normally attended by the Mid-Atlantic, SE Coastal, and Florida Regions is a pretty big rally with about 40 units in attendance. This rally will also be our Spring Rally. Our Spring Rally was just too close to the Beach Rally, and lots of people had to decide on one or the other. Hopefully everyone will be able to make this one. It is going to be held at a different campground in Myrtle Beach, SC--Myrtle Beach Travel Park, and will be on the weekend of April 15-17, 2011. AnnaMay and Judy will have further news about the rally with registration forms by early next year when the camping rates are finalized etc. I'll let you know. While you're at our rally, thank AnnaMay and Judy for a great job, and volunteer to help them out--this is a lot of work!
To Summarize:
Call the Anderson KOA to make reservations for the rally. Please call early.
Email me:
The number in your party with names and city, state for nametags
Preference for dinner. The "standard" will be a little pork, a little chicken, and one spare rib. If you want to bias it in any other way, just let me know how. Also, please include a preference for iced tea (sweet or un-sweet) or lemonade.
Let me know if you're interested in getting a t-shirt--please include size and color (white or gray).
In the meantime have a great summer and we'll see some of you at the North American Rally in Amana, Iowa.
